India Post Warns Customers of Fraud Websites Claiming to Offer Subsidies

The Department of Post (DoP) in India has warned its customers by sending SMSs asking them not to fall prey for fraudulent claims offering government subsidies via India Post.

India Post sent messages to its customers stating: “Dear DOP Customer, Beware of fraudulent claims to provide Govt. subsidies via India Post. FYI - https://pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetail.aspx?PRID=1819189.”

Ministry of Communications in its PIB release stated, “India Post is not involved in activities like announcing subsidies, bonus or prizes based on surveys, etc. Public receiving such messages via Emails, SMS, Whatsapp, Twitter, Instagram,etc. are requested not to believe or respond to such fake and spurious messages or share any personal details.

It has also requested customers not to share any personally identifiable information such as date of birth, Account numbers, mobile numbers, place of Birth & OTP etc.

In no event shall India post be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, punitive or consequential damages of any kind whatsoever with respect to such communications.”

While India Post following various protection methods, along with taking the required steps to avoid these URLs / links / Websites from being taken down.

The general public is reminded to not believe or respond to any phoney or spurious messages, communications, or connections.

Through social media, India Post and the Press Information Bureau's Fact Check Unit have deemed these URLs/Websites to be false.
