Biometric Systems of US Defence Moves to AWS Cloud

The Near Real-Time Identity Operations (NRTIO) system by the US Department of Defences' (DoD) Biometric Project Management Office has been migrated to AWS GovCloud with the help of InCadene, a subsidiary of Xator. Based on the contract signed with the agency, InCadene provided the technology for the migration and helped with the refactoring and modernization of NRTIO.

While the IL4 and RMF security requirements were maintained, biometric templates and other data of over 5 million identities were migrated without any loss of operation. According to Anthony Iasso, Xator’s Chief Technology Officer, this migration of the NRTIO system to the cloud without any loss of operation shows the viability of using cloud technology to provide reliable and scalable support directly to operational forces for identity intelligence.

This migration has helped DoD save money by decommissioning legacy hardware and lowering the hosting cost. IT has also set the stage for moving future DoD biometrics into the cloud.
