NEC Thailand to Provide Facial Recognition Onboarding for Hospital Patients

NEC Thailand1 has announced a new biometrics partnership2 with Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital3, a hospital unit run by the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital of Mahidol University.

The collaboration will see the technology giant’s country subsidiary provide the hospital with a new onboarding process for patients that will use contactless, facial recognition-based technologies.

The IT and network service provider was tapped to provide face recognition technology across the hospital’s patient registration counters and various touchpoints, such as the emergency room, to facilitate a “faster and more accurate” registration process.

As per a report that appeared in biometric update4, face biometrics will also be used to identify unresponsive patients (with no ID on them) in the emergency room.

Moreover, NEC upgraded the hospital’s CCTV system to augment overall security and aid staff in easily locating patients within the compound.

With the system in place, Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital expects a reduction in registration response times and staff burden. This also enables medical teams to administer treatment “more quickly in a safer environment while freeing up additional resources,” it noted in a press statement.

NEC is a global leader in the integration of IT and network technologies.
