Transport for NSW Hit by IT Outage Post Weekend Update

Mechanics in NSW, Australia, were unable to lodge pink slips electronically on 20th December 2021 after an outage prevented registration and licensing transactions from being completed online. This technical issue came after a critical IT upgrade to the system that looks after customers' online transactions by the Transport for NSW was done over the weekend.

The services that were affected due to the scheduled update over the weekend included e-safety checks and electronic pink slip submissions. The online dealer system was also unavailable during this time, which meant that dealers couldn't transfer vehicles, complete registrations, or exchange plates.

The systems were supposed to be back up and running by Monday morning, but customers could not complete registration and licensing until 1:30 pm AEDT. Services NSW confirmed later that they were experiencing intermittent system issues.

Transport for NSW said that they received complaints of users being unable to login into the application and process their pink slip renewals at 1 pm, but the issue was investigated and rectified with services restored by 3 pm.
