The Government of Karnataka, India, has designed a new platform Suvidha to accept online applications for welfare schemes and score citizens to determine who needs the benefit the most. The platform will function directly under Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who is part of several e-governance initiatives rolled out by the government.
Suvidha is focused on welfare schemes and will help citizens discover schemes and apply for them. The system will ensure that only eligible citizens can apply for the welfare schemes. The platform is also directly linked to the DBT enabling direct payment to the beneficiaries' bank accounts.
As an integrated platform, Suvidha will verify details entered by the citizens. The data that cannot be verified through integration will need to be checked manually by the respective departments.
The Arivu student loan scheme of the Backward Classes Welfare Department is already live on Suvidha. Another 125 welfare schemes of social welfare, disabilities, sericulture, and other departments are being uploaded on the platform.
Suvidha will ensure that the citizens in need of these schemes can benefit from it as currently, the government uses a first-come, first-serve method. This doesn't help the citizens, as in most cases, the beneficiaries applying for the welfare schemes are more than the allotted budget.
