The Justice Department of the US has announced a series of grants of $12 Million to facilitate data sharing between different law enforcement agencies. These resources will be allocated towards modernizing and expediting data collection and sharing between agencies.
These investments would support data collection and data infrastructure development through the states across the countries, which is critical to understanding and improving the nation’s justice system. It would help the US territories and jurisdictions collect administrative records from nearby jails, improve sharing and usage of crime-related data and improve the accessibility of juvenile court cases.
The allocation for individual projects ranges from $4.5 million to $500,000. The new funding was contributed by DOJ offices, including the Bureau of Justice Assistance, National Institute of Justice and Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and Bureau of Justice Statistics.
