New Platform to Help Match Foster Children with Families

Through a partnership with Connect our Kids, Ohio, US has launched a new statewide platform to help social workers match the state's 1,300 foster youth with permanent families. The social workers will use People Search and family Connections tools to map out a child's family tree and find contact details for extended family members.

The Family connection tool will use information from People Search, a free search engine that leverages data from over 300 public domain sources and from PIPL (an identity information provider that partners with Connect our Kids) to create diagrams of the child's family relationships and help build a complete family tree. CEO Jennifer Jacobs said that this idea was inspired by software that federal agencies use to build out networks of terrorist organizations.

The platform will be hosted on the Google Cloud Platform and will use color-coded family trees to show which family member is available to provide immediate, short-term, or long-term help. With the help of People Search, social workers, family recruiters, and court-appointed special advocates will easily locate and contact extended families or guardians.

The platform also enables users to search for potential caregivers by name, address, email id, and phone number. They can also add new information on relatives into a search box as the tool tries to match information to its People Search record. If there is a match, the data can be easily imported into the database.
