Malaysia Aims at Implementing National Digital Identity

The government agency, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, is expanding into the country's digital ID market with the National Digital Identity (NDI) and digital signatures project that plans to expand access to online services.

The project will cost-effectively ensure secure and seamless access to online services via the MDEC's digital ID and verification system. The project's goal is to improve the quality of online services and provide a better user experience.

MDEC CEO Mahadir Aziz said that the project has grown in prominence in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic as the world was forced to adapt to new practices for work and businesses. He added that the digital ID market is ripe for the local champions equipped with this technology to start picking. He also believed that Malaysia has innovative digital ID solution providers that can serve the needs of many global tech companies.
