Over 16 crore unorganized workers in India have registered under the government's e-SHRAM portal rolled out last year. It is the first-ever national database of unorganized workers, including construction workers, migrant workers, gig and platform workers, and others.
The registration under the e-SHRAM portal is free and can be done directly through the portal at eshrma.gov.in. The workers do not have to pay anything for their enrollment at Common Service Centers or Regional Offices of the State Government. The portal is seeded with the Aadhar cards easing the registration process.
After the registration, the workers will receive an e-SHRAM card with a unique Universal Account Number. The card will contain the name, address, occupation, education, skill type, and family details. The workers can access the benefits of various social security schemes the government offers through this card anywhere and anytime.
