Saudi Arabia and Bahrain launched health e-passports for travel between both countries. The Saudi Cabinet approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Bahrain's Information and e-Government and Authority and Saudi Arabia's Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence to activate the e-passport.
The e-passport will help verify and match trailer information across King Fahd Causeway for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain residents for COVID-19 health requirements. It is linked to the border system, verifying travelers' health details as the e-passport also displays the PCR result and travel insurance policy for coronavirus risks. The e-passport also integrates with the IATA transport system to display travel requirements.
In November 2021, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain signed an agreement to activate health passports and achieve technical integration between Saudi Arabia's Tawakkalna and Bahraini BeAware Bahrain app.
The MoU between both countries aims to ensure the implementation of bilateral preventive and control measures in combating COVID-19. It will also help with immediate verification and enhance the protection and confidentiality of all the data.
