On Thursday, Greece’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Digital Governance announced that all Greek consulates will now be able to directly register all major life events such as births, marriages, and deaths of Greeks living abroad.
All registrations and updates can now be electronically entered by consulates directly onto Greece’s “Citizens Database”, cutting through red-tape processes that up to now took months to complete.
The system has been accessible since January 1, 2022, to consular staff abroad who will enter the events taking place abroad, a joint ministry statement said.
“Technology is our ally in a concerted effort we are making to bring our fellow Greeks living abroad closer to Greece”, said e-Governance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Overseas Greeks and Public Diplomacy Andreas Katsaniotis said that the process responds to the needs of overseas Greeks and serves them faster and better.
