The UK government's plans are ongoing to invest £31.6 million on 11 projects centered around floating wind technology along most of its windy coastline. The government, in its statement, revealed that this investment is to develop modern technology that can enable turbines on the windiest regions of the coastline.
There will be an additional investment of over £30 million from private investments. The projects for the Marine Power System will receive approximately £3.4 million and focus on the floating foundation project with an integrated wave energy generator.
Another initiative for developing and demonstrating technologies on floating turbine base design, modern mooring system, advanced digital monitoring system, and cable protection will get over £9.6 million. There is another scheme seeking to combine combat floating foundation with an anchoring system which will receive around £10 million of investment. It will also deploy monitoring technology to assist operators in planning and undertaking maintenance offshore, reducing the towing cost.
The floating turbines will help enhance energy capacity by allowing wind farms to be located in new regions on the coastline where the strength of the wind can bring more productivity.
