Nigeria to Use Blockchain for Government Business by 2030

Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Isa Pantami, at the closing ceremony of the 2021 service-wide capacity building program on e-Government, said that the federal government is making moves for Nigeria to use blockchain for government business by 2030.

Mr. Pantami said that by 2030 the government hopes to achieve a paperless government driven by blockchain technology that can accomplish a lot. He also explained that the ministry had come up with 16 policies to push the digital economy agenda, including the policy on Virtual Engagement and e-Government.

The minister noted that the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) could save N9 billion and N152 million by approving IT projects in MDA in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Similarly, by implementing policies in the sector, more can be achieved.

He also directed the e-Government Training Center committee to ensure digitization of activities in the center in the year to ensure a database of these training for future reference. The committee will need to ensure that the training is extended to chief executives of organizations for a comprehensive e-government system and state governments to educate them on the benefits of government digitization.
