On 1st February 2022, the government of Ireland launched ‘Harnessing Digital - The Digital Ireland Framework,’ a new national digital strategy to drive and enable digital transition across the economy and society. The government wants to build a unique economic ecosystem and on Ireland’s success as the European Headquarters for many high-tech multinationals.
The framework places a strong emphasis on cyber security, safety, and inclusiveness. It focuses on digital benefits like flexible and remote working, efficient and public accessible services, and new job opportunities.
The new digital strategy talks about:
- Having households and businesses covered by Gigabit by 2028
- Covering all populated areas with 5G by 2030
- Providing digital skills for all, including schools, higher education, and life-long learning, with a target of increasing the share of adults with at least basic digital skills by 80% by 2030
- Having 90% services to be digital by 2030
- Providing grants and assistance with 90% SMEs at basic digital intensity by 2030
- Investing in cybersecurity, including increased resources for the National Cyber Security Center
The Tanaiste, with the support of the relevant Minister of States, will lead the digital engagement to ensure delivery of the ambitious set out in the strategy.
