Washington D.C. has launched a new initiative so that the people can get easier access to government resources. In Washington D.C., getting a business license usually involves filling out a series of forms one after the other for various departments asking almost the same set of information. But, implementing standard identity management across agencies would save applicants from having to create multiple accounts for repetitive procedures.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser’s administration contributed $4 million to a new digital services team, led by Deputy CTO Stephen Miller. The intention is to make the services more citizen-friendly through streamlined services and improved processes.
Washington D.C wants to empower the people that use their services to actually get the services that they need in order to meet their everyday needs, whether it be getting a business license or just easing the access to government services. He also said that his new team is less focused on technology and more on understanding people’s problems and improving processes. It's not necessarily throwing technology at a solution until they actually understand what the problem is.
