On 11th February, Francois Phillippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, announced the 29 organizations that will receive $80 million in funding in the third phase of the CanCode program. The investment will help the organizations across Canada to offer 3 million training opportunities to students from kindergarten to grade 12 to learn digital skills like data analytics, coding, and digital content development.
CanCode also helps teachers acquire the know-how to incorporate new digital skills and technologies in their classrooms and encourage under-represented student groups to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, and math. The program is designed to complement educational curricula, spark interest in coding, promote coding awareness, and encourage digital skills.
CanCode helped provide over 4.5 million digital skills and coding training opportunities to millions of Canadian students and to 220,000 to teachers in its first and second phases. This phase will provide an additional 3 million training opportunities for students and 120,000 to teachers focusing on under-represented groups.
