Saudi Digital Government Authority Launches Regulatory Sandbox

The Saudi Digital Government Authority (DGA) has launched the regulatory sandbox for government technology companies. The aim is to enhance digital government services. Regulatory sandbox refers to live testing of the latest products or services in a controlled environment.

Governments around the world are outpacing themselves to turn digital. Digital transformation is prioritised more and more for its benefits and to reach its citizens quickly and without hassle. The initiative by the Saudi government aims to boost the business environment, address the challenges that companies are facing and institutions in digital government services.

The event took place in Riyadh on the 8th of November in the presence of DGA Governor Ahmed al-Suwayan and leaders of the digital government in Saudi Arabia. Cooperation agreements were signed to form partnerships between DGA and several government technical companies to develop the regulatory strategy at several stages.

Ahmed al-Suwayan explained that the initiative aims to find regulatory solutions for digital platforms and services to beat several challenges such as regulating intellectual property rights, data sharing mechanisms, and lack of harmonization. He indicated that DGA aims to create an attractive environment for investment in digital government services and create opportunities for innovation and creativity.

The authority also wants to encourage the private sector to participate as a partner in the development process of the digital government transformation. They also want to build distinguished national capabilities capable of achieving digital leadership in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.
