In the second stage of its Connecting Victoria mobile program, the Victorian government is offering $265 million funding for telcos to improve 4G and 5G network coverage in under-served regions. The Department of Jobs, Precincts, and Regions started accepting proposals for grant funding from 1st February 2022.
The Connecting Victoria program is aimed at improving mobile coverage and digital inclusions in outer suburban Melbourne and regional areas by upgrading and co-funding infrastructure. It received $550 million funds in the 2020 state budget, with funding shared with Gigabit State.
Funding will be allocated to mobile network operators and mobile network infrastructure providers that will offer solutions to essential coverage, 4G enabled/5G fast-forward, and locations of strategic importance themes. Most funding will be provided to 4G enabled/5G fast-forward theme that aims to deliver robust coverage with high data speed.
